I’m writing today’s newsletter in light of the mass shooting in Texas.
My kids are at school. My mind is everywhere.
I’m feeling heartbroken. 💔
Many of us right now are feeling grief and deep sadness.
Also, many of us feel mad and angry.
I observe how all these emotions come alive in me.
And they get intensified.
I want something to change YESTERDAY.
I feel furious. I feel impatient. I feel rage.
But.
I get to choose.
Choose to acknowledge these feelings instead of avoiding them, intensifying them, or passing them on.
Choose to slow down, place a hand on my heart, breathe or engage in other soothing practices.
Choose to get myself ready to be emotionally available to help my kids process this shooting and to be a safe island for them to rest.
Choose to not only express difficult emotions, opinions, and thoughts, but also to look inward and ask:
how can we channel this heartbreaking event to spread light and hope?
how can we expand the ways in which we model kindness and peace?
how can we better support one another?
In truth, we can ask these questions not because we are not enough. But rather, because we care and want to discover new ways to promote peace within us, at home, and beyond.
In Israel, we long for the day in which we won’t need to send our kids to the army.
Here, in the U.S., we long for the day that gun violence will finally end.
Between now and then, we get to choose to promote peace and elevate humanity.
Let’s choose to be citizens in the better world we want our kids to live in 🙏.

“Peace is not just the mere absence of violence or disturbance. It's when there is a possibility of conflict, but you deliberately avoid violence and adopt methods to solve the problem through peaceful means. That is real peace.”
Dalai Lama Tweet
Reflect: What choices can you practice deliberately to promote real peace? Ideas to consider:
Choose to reach out for support, ask for help, or take a break.
Choose to find calming strategies when anger rules.
Choose to assume good intentions.
Choose to use the power of compassion.
With care and peace,
Liz
