Great things happen when we take fun and playfulness seriously.

I just came back from a family trip to Disneyland, to celebrate the Jewish new year.

It was such a fun experience to feel like a child again. I felt alive in a whole new way when I went on the Incredible rollercoaster, circled around on a teacup, or entered the world of Peter Pan.

Although it was overwhelmingly crowded and super hot, the nature of this trip created an environment that enabled me to be in a playful and lighthearted state more frequently.

I laughed more and felt a deeper connection and greater love for my family.

It dawned on me that while the modern world puts us in a serious mode of achieving goals, being efficient, learning, and making progress, it doesn’t mean that fun and playfulness are in our way.

I realized that great things happen when we take fun and playfulness seriously.

In fact, fun and playfulness can lead to change, innovation, and dream fulfillment.

For example, when Walt Disney was a child, his happy place was drawing.

His love for drawing changed the future of animation. Over time, he went beyond making movies, from building the happiest place on earth, aka Disneyland, expanding into Television, and establishing the Institute of the Arts dedicated to building a community of artists.

I’m confident that great breakthroughs in our parenting journey can be driven by exploring fun and playfulness, too.

The good news? We don’t need a trip to Disneyland to test it.

Dare to prioritize fun and playfulness in your daily life and see what happens.

Becomers’ weekly challenge – explore fun and playfulness

Reflect – connect inward and reflect on your

  • Happy place as a parent – what are the daily family moments or activities you genuinely define as fun and evoke a sense of lightheartedness, connection, and joy? For example, being in nature, building lego, cooking/dancing together, riding the bicycle, etc.
  • Happy place as a child – what games or activities did you enjoy engaging in as a child? Bring them home. I recently got Rummikub which I enjoyed playing as a child, and it’s so much fun playing it with my kids. ðŸ¥°

Prioritize – our fun matters. If you know you have fun when you engage in a certain activity, communicate it at home, and together come up with a plan to make time for it.

Follow the fun and play hard, ✨

Liz
